🕊️ What Does the Bible Say About Baptism?

🔹 1. What Is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation—a public declaration that you have decided to follow Jesus and are identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection.

Romans 6:4 (NIV)
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

🔹 2. The Importance of Baptism

• Jesus Himself was baptized to model obedience and humility.

Matthew 3:13-17
Jesus came to be baptized by John. After His baptism, the heavens opened and the Spirit descended like a dove, and a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

• It is a command for believers.

Matthew 28:19-20 (The Great Commission)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”

• It symbolizes cleansing from sin and new life in Christ.

Acts 22:16
“And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.”

🔹 3. When Should You Be Baptized?

• After believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Acts 2:38
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

Acts 8:36-38
“Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”
Philip replied, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”

• Baptism doesn’t require perfection—just repentance and faith.

🔹 4. Is Baptism Required for Salvation?

Salvation is through faith alone in Jesus Christ, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). But baptism is an act of obedience that reflects saving faith.

• It’s a public testimony of your faith

• It reflects your new life in Christ

• It’s a sign that you are dead to sin and alive in Christ

If you've accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you can be baptized today—just like believers in the Bible were! Baptism is not about having it all together, it’s about giving God your whole heart.

The Power Planning meeting is a gathering of women with a purpose to armor up spiritually and walk together in Christ. The aim is to review our individual God-given purposes, assess our strengths and weaknesses, and align our vision with Christ’s call. Through scripture, prayer, praise, and worship, we will prepare to do the work God is calling us to do, stepping out of stagnation and into His promises. This is a time for spiritual growth, encouragement, and empowerment, focusing on obedience, faith, and sacrifice as we move from the wilderness into the Promised Land.

Though Power Planning is paused for this season, the call to grow in God’s Word never stops. I encourage you, sisters, to continue studying Scripture, drawing nearer to Christ, and applying His truth daily.

🍞 What Does the Bible Say About Communion?

Also known as the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist

🔹 1. What Is Communion?

Communion is a sacred act of remembrance. It symbolizes Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross—His body broken and His blood shed—for the forgiveness of sins. It is a time for reflection, thanksgiving, and unity with Christ and other believers.

Luke 22:19-20 (NIV)
“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’”

🔹 2. Why Is Communion Important?

• It remembers Jesus’ sacrifice

1 Corinthians 11:26
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

• It’s a command from Jesus

Matthew 26:26-28
“Take and eat; this is my body... Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant...”

• It fosters unity among believers

1 Corinthians 10:16-17
“Is not the cup of thanksgiving... a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread... a participation in the body of Christ?”

🔹 3. When Can You Take Communion?

• Communion is for believers in Jesus Christ
  If you’ve repented and trusted Christ as Savior, you’re invited to the table.

• You can take it regularly, in corporate worship or personal devotion

Acts 2:42
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

🔹 4. How Should You Prepare Your Heart?

• Examine yourself before taking communion

1 Corinthians 11:28-29
“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.”

• Repent of sin and come with a heart of reverence, not routine

Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, God, and know my heart... lead me in the way everlasting.”

• Come with thanksgiving for the grace that saved you!

🔹 5. What Do the Elements Mean?

• The Bread – Symbolizes Jesus’ body, broken for us

• The Cup – Symbolizes Jesus’ blood, poured out for our forgiveness and the new covenant

Isaiah 53:5
“He was pierced for our transgressions... and by His wounds we are healed.”

✝️ Communion Is...

• A memorial

• A covenant renewal

• A proclamation of Jesus’ return

• A sacred moment of intimacy with God

"Do this in remembrance of Me." – Luke 22:19

The Armor of God, as described in Ephesians 6:10-18, consists of six key elements that symbolize the spiritual defenses God provides to protect believers from spiritual attack:

1. The Belt of Truth

   • "Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist."

   • This represents honesty, integrity, and the truth of God’s Word that holds everything together.

2. The Breastplate of Righteousness

   • "With the breastplate of righteousness in place."

   • This symbolizes living a life of righteousness and being morally upright, which guards our hearts from the enemy’s attacks.

3. The Gospel of Peace (Shoes of Readiness)

   • "And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."

   • This refers to being prepared to proclaim the gospel and live in the peace of God, which helps us stand firm in our faith.

4. The Shield of Faith

   • "Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."

   • Faith in God protects us from the enemy’s lies, doubts, and temptations.

5. The Helmet of Salvation

   • "Take the helmet of salvation."

   • This symbolizes our confidence in the saving grace of Jesus Christ, protecting our minds from fear and discouragement.

6. The Sword of the Spirit (Word of God)

   • "And the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

   • The Word of God is our offensive weapon, allowing us to fight against lies, temptations, and deceptions by knowing and applying Scripture.

Bonus:

• Prayer (often considered the 7th element):

  • "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests."

  • Though not symbolized as a piece of armor, prayer is the foundation that binds everything together and empowers us in our spiritual battle.

By "putting on" these spiritual defenses daily, we are better equipped to stand strong in our faith and resist the enemy’s attacks.

Meeting Etiquette:

• Speak Life: Only positive and life-affirming words will be spoken during the meeting. Complaining is not allowed.

• Focus on God’s Work: Stay focused on the task and purpose God has for each of us.

• Respect the Spirit: Allow the Holy Spirit to move in the meeting without speaking over others or dominating the discussion.

• Pre- and Post-Prayer Requests: Share any prayer requests before and after the meeting to lift one another up.

• Encourage Each Other: This is a space of love, faith, and encouragement; build each other up in Christ.

📖 What Is a Testimony?

A testimony is your personal story of how Jesus Christ changed your life. It glorifies God, strengthens others, and shows that His grace is real and available.

🎯 Why Share Your Testimony?

• It points people to Jesus

• It strengthens faith—yours and others’

• It breaks shame and sets others free

• It builds connection and healing in community

(Keep each section around 2–3 minutes for a 6–10 minute total)

1️⃣ BEFORE CHRIST – “My Life Before Jesus Took Over”

• What was your background like?

• What pain, brokenness, or sin were you struggling with?

• What was missing?

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” – Romans 3:23

2️⃣ HOW YOU MET JESUS – “The Turning Point”

• When and how did you surrender to Christ?

• What led you to that moment?

• Who or what did God use?

“If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation...” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

3️⃣ LIFE AFTER CHRIST – “What God Has Done Since”

• How has your life changed?

• What are you still learning or healing from?

• What joy, freedom, peace, or purpose do you now have?

🎤 Presentation Tips

• Be honest and Spirit-led

• Don’t exaggerate or focus only on the pain—highlight the redemptive work of Christ

• Stick to the main story, not every detail

• End with a Scripture or encouragement for others

1. The Doctrine of God

• The Trinity: I believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—co-equal and co-eternal (Matthew 28:19).

• God the Father: Sovereign, holy, and loving; He draws us to Himself and is the source of all life and purpose (Jeremiah 29:11).

• God the Son (Jesus Christ): Fully God and fully man; born of a virgin, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and soon return (John 1:1, Hebrews 4:15, Revelation 22:12).

• God the Holy Spirit: Convicts, regenerates, indwells, empowers, teaches, and guides believers into truth (John 14:26, Romans 8:11).

2. The Doctrine of the Bible

• I believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the final authority for faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Daily study and meditation on Scripture are essential for spiritual growth and discernment (Psalm 119:105).

3. The Doctrine of Humanity

• Humans are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) but are born into sin due to the Fall (Romans 5:12).

• Every person has inherent worth and purpose, yet is in need of redemption through Jesus Christ.

4. The Doctrine of Salvation

• Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).

• It involves repentance, justification, sanctification, and ultimately glorification (Romans 10:9-10, Romans 8:30).

• The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin, and in Him, we have true freedom and new life (1 John 1:7, 2 Corinthians 5:17).

5. The Doctrine of the Church

• The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers (Ephesians 1:22-23).

• I believe in the importance of gathering in community for worship, discipleship, accountability, and service (Hebrews 10:25).

• The Church is called to make disciples, baptize, and teach all that Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:18-20).

6. The Doctrine of Ministry

• Every believer is called to ministry—using their spiritual gifts to edify the Church and reach the lost (1 Peter 4:10).

• My personal philosophy of ministry is rooted in love, humility, and the leading of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25).

• True leadership follows the servant-hearted example of Jesus (Mark 10:45).

7. The Doctrine of Sanctification

• Sanctification is the lifelong process of becoming more like Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit (Philippians 1:6).

• I believe in denying the flesh, picking up my cross daily, and walking in step with the Spirit (Luke 9:23, Galatians 5:16-25).

8. The Doctrine of the End Times

• I believe in the bodily return of Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

• Believers will be with the Lord forever, while those who reject Christ face eternal separation from God (Revelation 20:11-15).

9. The Doctrine of Prayer and Spiritual Discipline

• Prayer is essential for intimacy with God and intercession for others (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• Spiritual disciplines such as fasting, meditation, worship, and Scripture study are foundational for a vibrant relationship with Christ.

10. The Doctrine of Healing and Restoration

• I believe God is a healer—physically, emotionally, and spiritually (James 5:14-16).

• My own journey testifies to the restorative power of Christ in the midst of trauma, abuse, grief, and loss.

Each month, we challenge our community to step out and serve locally—because ministry isn’t just what happens in the church, it’s what we live every day. 📖 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” — 1 Corinthians 12:27

This month’s Serve Challenge:

✅ Donate to a local food bank (Journey Light is currently contributing to the Forney Food Bank)
✅ Volunteer at a food pantry or shelter
✅ Drop off hygiene kits to a community outreach center
✅ Write encouragement notes for frontline workers or the homeless
✅ Invite someone to church or pray with a neighbor

✅ Support a child in need (we’ve partnered through Lakepointe Church’s child sponsorship)
✅ Provide warmth and comfort (we are providing blanket donations to serve as a reminder of the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, to those in need)
